The government shutdown has now reached day 19 as President Trump pushes for $5.7 billion in border wall funding. The president claims a border wall will help combat the flow of drugs like fentanyl from entering the country. A DEA report from this past November says otherwise. But how are these drugs currently making their way to New York State? WBFO’s Nick Lippa reports.

Federal authorities say they have brought down the leader of a major opioids manufacturing and trafficking ring that has been supplying New York's Southern Tier and Northern Pennsylvania.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has proposed hiring its own prosecutor corps to bring cases related to drug trafficking, money laundering and asset forfeiture — a move that advocacy groups warn could exceed the DEA's legal authority and reinvigorate the 1980s-era war on drugs.

Law enforcers say they've broken up a drug ring on Buffalo's East Side involving three generations of one family as well as close family friends.

Nine people have been indicted on various drug counts.  Facing the most counts is 58-year-old Theresa Anderson of Buffalo.  If convicted, she could face life in prison.  Investigators say she was the matriarch of this drug-dealing operation that first began small in 2000 and, over the next dozen years, acquired properties and expanded into a 24/7 operation.
