With the Democratic primary for Buffalo mayor only four weeks away, incumbent Byron Brown has a substantial lead over competitors City Comptroller Mark Schroeder and Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant.

On Thursday, October 27, candidates for Erie County District Attorney will meet at the WNED|WBFO studios for a debate on issues facing county voters.

With tonight's televised debate, the contest for Erie County Executive is expected to heat up. Buffalo News political reporter Bob McCarthy, one of the debate panelists, says until now the contest had been a "sleepy race."


Higgins, Weppner debate at St. Joe's

A debate between Democrat incumbent Rep. Brian Higgins and Republican challenger Kathy Weppner took place at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Wednesday morning. The candidates are vying for the 26th Congressional District seat.

Ahead of the gubernatorial debates, protestors gathered outside of the WBFO-WNED studios.  The crowd was heavy with ant-fracking, pro-clean energy mantras, and just as weighted with chants for Second Amendment rights – those mostly aimed at Governor Cuomo.

Before the gubernatorial candidates started volleying debate points, citizens were volleying protest slogans.  Outside of the WBFO-WNED studios, shouts for second amendment rights – mostly aimed at Governor Cuomo – were just as loud as chants against fracking for natural gas.

Four candidates for New York governor will face off in a debate in Buffalo on Wednesday, October 22.

Democrats are fighting over State Legislature seats in Buffalo. The candidates debated Tuesday night in the Burchfield Penney Art Center during an event sponsored by the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists.

With polls showing incumbent Byron Brown with a sizable lead in the race for Buffalo Mayor, Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy believes tonight's debate on WBFO and WNED-TV could produce some surprises.

The candidates in the 27th Congressional District, Rep. Kathy Hochul (D) and former Erie County Executive Chris Collins (R), met for their first debate Tuesday evening at the WNED studios in downtown Buffalo.

Hochul and Collins sparred in a 50-minute debate moderated by WBFO News Director Jim Ranney. The candidates took questions from three area journalists: Bob McCarthy of The Buffalo News, Claudine Ewing of WGRZ-TV and Julie Phillip of WXXI in Rochester, as well as e-mailers.
