Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) - who introduced New York's measure to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana - says the effort has gone up in smoke. In a statement released late Wednesday morning, Krueger said "it is clear the measure will not pass this session," but called it only "a delay," not the "end of the road."

District Attorney Frank Sedita III received some positive political news this weekend with the endorsement of the Erie County Republican Party.

The development puts the long-time Democrat on the top lines of the November ballot and almost guarantees his re-election to a second term as D.A.

Sedita's office suffered a high-profile setback last week when James Corasanti was found not guilty on felony charges related to the vehicular death of 18-year-old Alix Rice.

In an emotional post-trial press conference, Sedita apologized to Rice's family for the verdict.
