Thousands of law enforcement officials and community members gathered at Fort Drum Saturday afternoon to mourn the loss of New York State Trooper Joel Davis. Davis was responding to a domestic incident last week when he was shot and killed, allegedly by soldier Justin Walters. Walters was also charged with killing his wife, Nichole Walters, and shooting her friend Rebecca Finkle, who was treated and released from the hospital. Finkle's children were at the scene.

Funeral-goers mourned Trooper Davis’ passing and celebrated his life and service.

A state police trooper and a 27-year-old woman were killed Sunday night as part of an apparent domestic violence incident in Jefferson County. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered flags on state buildings flown at half-mast in honor of Trooper Joel Davis.

The Cheektowaga man convicted of strangling his girlfriend, then setting her body on fire inside their home, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, plus five years post-release supervision.

Women's coalitions held news conference all across New York State Thursday urging support for Governor Cuomo's Women's Equality Act.

Advocates and survivors of domestic violence are celebrating a victory today as President Obama has signed an expanded Violence Against Women Act.

Police in North Tonawanda are searching for a potentially dangerous man.

Ryan Carr is 25-years-old, is of average height and weight with short, brown hair and blue eyes. He is considered to be dangerous and is wanted on a number of outstanding warrants connected with domestic violence. A reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Tips may be phoned to 867 - 6161. Anyone who sees Carr is urged to call 911.

Despite the best efforts of experts, the problem of domestic violence doesn't seem to go away. Two recent high-profile cases highlight how the issue often has tragic implications.

Wednesday marked "Shine the Light on Domestic Violence Day" in New York State.  In Buffalo, local domestic violence service providers gathered on the steps of City Hall to recognize the work against domestic violence.

Robyn Wiktorski-Reynolds is coordinator at Crisis Services.  She noted an 11-percent increase in domestic violence cases this year and believes there are more unreported cases.
