Thanksgiving Day is around the corner and police will be increasing road patrols through the holiday and holiday weekend.

Thousands of people will head to downtown Buffalo Thursday night to ring in the new year. Those celebrations typically involve drinking and one local company is offering free rides to party-goers who may find themselves too drunk to drive.

While police say they're always looking out for those who drive while impaired, they're stepping up efforts from now through September 7 in an end-of-summer "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

Drunk driving is being blamed in a crash that killed a 7-month-old girl and left her mother seriously injured.

A local woman who lost her own sister to drunk driver a few years ago says Judge Sheila DiTullio should be praised for sentencing Dr. James Corasanti to a year in prison.

Deanna Russo with the Crusade Against Impaired Driving applauds the judge's decision to issue the maximum sentence.

"She is sending a message to the community that drinking and driving should be taken seriously, and even though it was just the DWI charge... it was still serious enough for her to say 'you're going to jail for a year,'" said Russo.
