The Buffalo Preservation Board on Thursday voted to recommend to the Common Council that the old and historic Concrete Central Elevator be designated as a landmark. The board also talked about making more visible the process for designating what everyone thought were landmarks as official city landmarks.

The Buffalo School Board Wednesday night celebrated East High School's men's basketball team winning a state championship and was praised for taking a big step toward major improvements in district athletic facilities.

Details and budgets are still being worked out but the rough outlines of the futures of Lafayette and East High Schools were approved by the school board Wednesday night.

The Buffalo School Board is expected to decide this week on final plans for four failing city schools. But earlier this week the board's majority aidd it will not act on the proposed plans for those schools unless it is able to negotiate a new contract with the Buffalo Teachers Federation.

Interim Buffalo School Superintendent Don Ogilvie says the school district has a Friday deadline to submit a round of proposed turnaround plans for four failing city schools to prevent closure by the New York State Education Department.
