Erie County legislators have unanimously asked Albany to extend the deadline for renewing pistol permits, noting potentially thousands of permit holders have not renewed.

After an extended debate Thursday, Erie County legislators voted to send a proposed ban on people convicted of some crimes from holding elective or appointive offices in county government back to committee.

Orange Work Zone signs should start going up soon on roads owned by Erie County. The Legislature's Economic Development Committee signed off on a $26.8 million highway improvement plan on Tuesday.

The Erie County Legislature approved a ban on plastic microbeads Thursday. Legislators also wrangled over a state plan to raise the minimum wage in some fast food restaurants and over a demand that Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz meet with legislators about the problems in Child Protective Services.

Residents in the Town of Clarence have been dealing with problems on Tonawanda Creek Road for about a decade, as erosion has caused part of the road to collapse. During a stop there Monday, Sen. Charles Schumer warned that unless Congress acts, road funding will run out soon.

Erie County legislators have unanimously approved an expanded budget for repairing the county's tattered roads and bridges, badly dented by a winter which never seemed to end.

The Start Up New York program received different reviews Thursday, at opposite ends of downtown Buffalo. Some Erie County legislators doubt the program's effectiveness while opinions were more favorable along the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
