The Bishop Buffalo Catholic Diocese is remembering its first Polish bishop. Bishop Emeritus Edward Kmiec died Saturday evening at the age of 84 after a period of declining health.

A procession of priests, cardinals, archbishops, and bishops led the official installation mass of Richard Malone as the 14th Roman Catholic Bishop of Buffalo Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Cathedral. 

The 66-year-old Malone spent eight years as Bishop in Portland, Maine. Pope Benedict XVI selected him in may to succeed retiring Buffalo Bishop Edward Kmiec.

The Diocese of Buffalo has introduced its next Bishop.

Bishop Richard J. Malone,66, will take over as the 14th Bishop of Buffalo, replacing the retiring Edward Kmiec.
