The Buffalo School Board had hoped to open its new restaurant and hospitality high school this fall. However, the earliest possibility is now September of next year, as lease negotiations for a site continue.
The principal of Emerson High School has been in the center of the Buffalo School District's controversy of trying to select the next district leader. Principal James Weimer backed away from becoming school board's majority choice as the next superintendent. He faced personal attacks after word surfaced that his wife conducted legal work for board member Carl Paladino. Buffalo has an increasing number of hotels and restaurants and an increasing demand for people to work in them. City schools are looking at that as a way to deal with the demand for more vocational training and the demand for successful schools.
