Even though there are slightly more women than men, in Erie County, a new report shows most elected offices are held by men.

Erie County Government is observing All Women's Equal Pay Day, a day marked to raise awareness of ongoing gaps in pay between women and men. Elected leaders are marking the day by urging support for a statewide ban on wage-history discrimination.

Women's History Month places the spotlight on those whose contributions may have previously gone unnoticed. Sawrie Becker, commissioner of Office of Public Advocacy with the Erie County Commission on the Status of Women, says women's history offers valuable lessons. "Courage is probably the most important thing. To be willing to take a stand when it may not be the popular thing to do."
