In a day of complicated maneuvering, Erie County legislators killed a plan to refinance the debt of Erie County Medical Center, then sent back to committee a separate plan to borrow $100 million for the hospital using the county's credit rating. It was a day of attacks - some personal - and so much parliamentary maneuvering regarding the entangled finances of Erie County and ECMC even legislators were sometimes lost.

Just hours before the Erie County Executive was set to deliver his State of the County Address, the county's top fiscal watchdog issued a warning that the county overestimated sales tax revenues for 2015 and could see a serious budget problem if it doesn't curb spending in 2016.

The Buffalo Urban League has filed a notice of claim against Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw over what the group calls "an improperly conducted and fatally flawed report" that has caused harm to the organization.

A recent audit revealed how the Buffalo Urban League overbilled Erie County's Department of Social Services. Charlotte Keith, who reported on the story for Investigative, discussed the findings on WBFO's Press Pass.

Independent reviews of the audit and the accounting divisions will be conducted. Mychajliw claims he is looking to make the office more efficient.

He claims this will set the proper tone for the office as his term moves forward.

Former television reporter Stefan Mychajliw has been sworn in as Erie County Comptroller.

Veteran broadcast journalist Stefan Mychajliw is running for Erie County Comptroller. 

Mychajliw has been endorsed by the Republican,  Conservative and Independence Parties.  He has had a varied career. 

After working in TV news, Mychajliw served as a spokesman for the Buffalo School District.  More recently, he ran his own public relations agency and served as co-host of a noon-time debate show on Channel 2. 

Mychajliw said all that experience makes him well qualified to run for county comptroller.
