Wednesday would have been opening day of the Erie County Fair, but there is no fair this year because of COVID-19. Even so, officials are trying to retain some features of the iconic summer event.

The Erie County Agricultural Society, for only the second time in the history of the Erie County Fair, has postponed the "best 12 days of summer" until 2021.

The Erie County Fair shattered its all-time attendance record. Officials say when the Fair wrapped up Sunday night, its 2019 attendance hit 1,238,456.

Where can you eat pierogi poutine and a loganberry funnel cake corn dog on the same day? The Erie County Fair, of course. This year’s fair is coming up on Aug. 7-18, and there will be plenty of options to vote for in the New Food Showdown.

The New York State Fair starts Aug. 22, the capstone of which will be a 136,000-square-foot Expo Center described as the largest indoor event space between Boston and Cleveland.

The organization that presents the Erie County Fair has named its new CEO, but she’s no stranger to the fairgrounds.

Friday marks the end of an era at the Erie County Fairgrounds. Dennis Lang, who has worked as CEO and Fair Manager since 1999, is retiring.

Following a ride malfunction that killed one person and injured several others at the Ohio State Fair this week, state officials want to assure fairgoers in New York that everything possible is being done to ensure that rides are safe.

Cleanup efforts are continuing after  three tornadoes touched down Thursday in Southern Erie County and Allegany County.

Today marks the opening of the 175th annual Erie County Fair in Hamburg.

Special events planned for the 175th Erie County Fair in August include a high-wire act by daredevil Nik Wallenda and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's first solo concert at the fair in nearly 60 years.

The Erie County Fair opens today at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. The fair is the third largest county fair in the United States and often draws up to one million people. But with increased concerns of domestic terrorism in the wake of this past spring's Boston bombings, WBFO's Eileen Buckley says security will be taken up a notch this year.

Given the popularity of animal exhibits and petting zoos at county fairs, health officials are reminding the public about the importance of practicing good hygiene. This after an outbreak of swine flu in about a dozen states. 

So far, the outbreak has been limited to mid-western states.  But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls the 162 cases reported as of Friday an extraordinary increase over the 13 swine flu cases confirmed during all of 2011.
