After months of preparation, Erie County's Opioid Epidemic Task Force formally rolled out a three-part campaign Monday designed to provide easier connections between addicts and the treatment programs that can help them. It didn't take long for some of those services to get busy.


Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein has confirmed the first case of the Zika virus in the county.

New cases of syphilis in Erie County have surged nearly fourfold over a five-year span. Local health officials say anonymous sexual encounters arranged online are fueling the spread of the sexually transmitted disease.


Local E. coli case tied to Chipotle chain

The Erie County Health Department is investigating a case of E-coli that is linked to an area Chipotle Mexican Grill Restaurant. In the past month there were similar outbreaks in five other states.

The first discovered instance of a mosquito bearing the West Nile virus this year has been reported in Erie County.

Measles vaccine: Facts, not fear

Enterovirus D68 cases confirmed in Erie County

Fourteen case of Enterovirus D68 have been confirmed in Erie County. The Erie County Health Department announced Monday that they're still testing others for the illness. The respiratory virus has been present in region since August.

West Nile Virus found in Erie County

Local residents are being encouraged to take precautions before heading outdoors. That warning issued following the discovery that mosquitoes are once again infected with West Nile Virus.

With the alarming and rapid rise of heroin overdose deaths in Erie County, a north Buffalo man urges first responders are armed with a drug that reverses an overdose of Heroin or Opiate.  WBFO'S Eileen Buckley says the drug, called Naloxone or Narcan, has been proven to prevent deaths.

In light of recent flood causing weather conditions in parts of western New York the Erie County Department of Health is reminding people to be aware of health and safety risks when cleaning up their flooded basement.

The Erie County Health Department is warning residents about an outbreak of Norovirus -- more commonly known as the "stomach bug" -- this winter.

There has been one confirmed human case of the West Nile virus in Erie County. 

County health officials said Thursday an adult was hospitalized, but has been since released to recover at home. 

The Health Department is warning residents to take precautions against mosquitoes that carry the disease.  Director of Public Health Dr. Scott Zimmerman says the drier than normal summer has not flushed out standing water, allowing mosquitoes to breed.
