On the heels of another inmate death at an Erie County jail, County Legislature Chairwoman April Baskin requested by letter, the attendance of County Sheriff Timothy Howard at the next Public Safety meeting on October 31st, which will center on continued improvements of county jails. Four inmates have died in the custody of the county in the last month. Since 2005, when Howard became Sheriff, 28 inmates have died.

The results of a 90-day public comment period on the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center Market Analysis and Feasibility study show 86 percent of those who responded to an online survey were in favor of investing in to a new convention center.

The results of a much-anticipated study on a future convention center in downtown Buffalo were revealed Thursday. While delivering the results of the study, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and others shared the opinion that doing nothing is not an option if the region is to remain in the business of attracting meeting events, and the millions of dollars they bring.

A new state law awaiting the Governor’s signature would raise the age to serve alcohol from 18 to 21 and impose some restrictions on sample sizes. A resolution was introduced Wednesday afternoon by Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Joseph Lorigo and Assemblyman Erik Bohen opposing the proposed changes.

Two Erie County lawmakers announced Tuesday a proposed resolution calling for the resignation or removal of the last remaining commissioner from the Erie County Water Authority who served during a period of time sharply criticized in a recently-released state report.

Hours after announcing it would add a $3.50 fee for ride-hailing services to and from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced it had reached agreements with ride-hailing providers Uber and Lyft, including one that reduces the previously-announced fee.

Erie County is asking Albany for some help in dealing with the problem of zombie homes. Officials believe the county is home to 800 zombie properties, vacant homes allowed to deteriorate as the foreclosure process grinds to a conclusion.
