Sheriff Howard: No edict to deputies on SAFE Act

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is clarifying his recent comments regarding New York's new gun control law.

Just about every day, an Erie County deputy sheriff makes a drunken driving arrest. Sheriff Tim Howard says his deputies are on track for the fourth year in a row of making more than 300 such arrests.

The political season is starting to heat up, with Erie County Democrats looking for opponents to contest two major incumbents.

As Erie County Democrats search for a candidate for sheriff, a retired sergeant is tossing his hat into the ring.

Why were three Erie County Holding Center inmates mistakenly released over the past few months?  Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard went before the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee Tuesday to try to explain. 

In the latest incident a couple of weeks ago, a suspected car thief, Paris Williams, was freed from the Holding Center when another man whose last name is also Williams should have been released.
