A woman who escaped domestic violence and conquered alcoholism is sharing her story to offer hope for others. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley spoke with Jillian James who says a women's shelter and food assistance saved her life.

The latest grant awarded by the Ralph Wilson Foundation is going to end up benefiting thousands of local residents.

The 14th annual National Buffalo Wing Festival is under way this weekend.

Fifteen Western New York charities received a combined donation of more than $67,000, Wednesday afternoon.

The number of senior citizens in need of help putting food on the table locally is rising at an alarming rate. 

A local agency is seeing a rise in the need for food assistance by current and former military service members.

This Saturday, letter carriers across the country will take part in the 22nd annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive. More than 86 food pantries in western New York are expected to benefit from the donations.

As trick or treaters ring door bells this evening for Halloween, some University at Buffalo students will asking for donations. 

Students will be heading out around UB's North campus in Amherst collecting non-perishable food for the Food Bank of Western New York.

UB students will be dressed in Halloween costumes to participate in Trick or Eat, a program  sponsored by the Meal Exchange.  Terri Budek is the community engagement coordinator at UB's student leadership and community engagement.   Budek said this event engages students to get involved in important issues.
