Activists were back before the Lackawanna City Council Monday night, protesting the Sept. 9 shooting death of a canine in Holy Cross Cemetery by the city's animal control officer.

Driving down Abbott Road in Lackawanna is a trip down memory lane, as red, white and blue banners proudly proclaim the names and pictures of local veterans. Tuesday evening, a third round of Lackawanna Hometown Hero banners was presented at the American Legion Matthew Glab Post 1477.

An era is coming to a close in Lackawanna. Mayor Geoffrey Szymanski's term limits end Dec. 31 and he is looking for a new job. However, Szymanski will be much happier when he leaves office, now that a site has been chosen to relocate City Hall administrative offices from the "big orange milk crate on stilts" on Ridge Road.

Major road repair set for two Lackawanna streets

Two of the City of Lackawanna's busiest roads will be getting repaved this summer, paid for by a grant arranged by New York State Senator Tim Kennedy.

The effort to rebuild and revitalize local communities has taken another step forward. Funding is in place and a leader has been hired for the Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Bank.
