Governor Andrew Cuomo is due to release his state budget plan this week, as the state confronts the largest budget deficit the governor has faced in his decade in office, much of it due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to allocate an additional 25-million dollars towards a program that has helped reduce food waste since the COVID pandemic started last spring. The food banks and farmers it would benefit say it’s very much needed.

Bills Stadium in Orchard Park could see fans in-person for the Buffalo Bills' first home playoff game since 1996. That according to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who says the NFL is working with the state on a plan to allow 6,700 fans to attend the game.

Congress, in the relief package approved late Monday, did not include a financial bail out for states hit hard by the pandemic, leaving New York with a multi-billion dollar budget deficit going into the New Year.  The leader of the state Assembly says now is the time to push ahead with new taxes on the wealthiest, to start making up for the loss.

The Gowanda Correctional Facility in Erie County is slated to close over the next 90 days. A representative for the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association says some 511 corrections officers and sergeants will be affected by the closing, as will civilian employees.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that gyms, salons and spas may reopen but work under restrictions within a designated COVID "orange zone." The move comes as Cuomo says data shows those businesses have not been sources of significant viral spreads. Some owners of such businesses, while pleased they may reopen, say they've been telling the governor all along they could operate safely.
