Pilot program aimed at opioid crisis

A new pilot program is aimed at preventing opioid and heroin addiction.  State Senator Chris Jacobs announced he has secured $50,000 in state funding to support a High School Ambassador Program in Buffalo Public high schools. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says the program will promote behaviors to avoid drug abuse.

Experts on the heroin and opioid epidemic testified before a State Senate Task Force, in Buffalo, on Wednesday.

The final report by the state Heroin and Opioid Task Force has been handed over to Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Task Force was charged with identifying ways to address the growing opioid addiction epidemic. Task Force co-chair Kathy Hochul states that the compensation equation for doctors lends to the addiction problem.
