The widespread movement to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day is now playing out in Buffalo Public Schools.


Columbus Day has been a federal holiday since 1937, but some want to see that changed.  Four states don't recognize Columbus Day and a growing number of cities have followed suit.

A local school district is recognizing Monday as Indigenous Peoples' Day. WBFO's Focus on Education reporter Eileen Buckley says the Akron Central School District wants to teach students about the important historic role played by Native Americans in the community.
