There may be fewer people facing gun and violence charges walking out of courts in Erie County under orders from District Attorney John Flynn.

Charges have been pressed against suspects in two homicide cases from last year, including the shooting death of a young mother in the Town of Tonawanda and a double homicide in the City of Buffalo. Two of the four suspects are tied to both cases.

The Erie County District Attorney was again unsuccessful in securing an immediate bench warrant for a Franklinville man charged in relations to a Black Lives Matter protest in August. But the new date for Michael Cremen's arraignment has been moved up to next week.

A Franklinville man accused of wielding a knife during a confrontation with Black Lives Matter protesters failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment Thursday morning. While the judge rescheduled the hearing, the Erie County District Attorney wanted Michael Cremen arrested immediately, expressing safety concerns.

A West Seneca man is facing a criminally negligent homicide charge after a barroom dispute over not wearing a face mask. Donald Lewinski, 65, will be arraigned in Town Court Tuesday evening in the death of Rocco Sapienza, 80.

The number of people driving under the influence is rising rapidly in Erie County, judging by the arrest statistics so far this year.

A Lackawanna man was sent to prison for six months and sentenced to 10 years of sex offender probation Tuesday for a sexual act with a 14-year-old at an Orchard Park salon.

In advance of January 1, 2020, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn is advising his prosecutors to seek special permission before requesting bail for those charged with misdemeanors and non-violent crimes. At the start of the new year, New York State will no longer allow bail to be imposed in such cases. According to Ali Ingersoll of Investigative Post, some factions of the criminal justice system may not be ready to embrace the reforms.
