For years, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has been trying to find a new, more efficient way for inmates’ loved ones to visit them. With a new video conferencing system, they’ve got it.

Chautauqua County is close to taking control of its new radio system. In preparation, teams are conducting system checks at nearly 4,000 land sites across the county.

For Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace, there is a sense of deja vu in the North Country hunt for two Clinton Correctional Facility inmates who escaped nearly two weeks ago. The sheriff was deeply involved in the five-month hunt  in 2006 for escaped prisoner Bucky Phillips.

An apparent homicide is under investigation in the Chautauqua County community of Westfield.

Authorities say four men have been arrested in connection with a home invasion that left a Southern Tier couple dead.

The man accused of gunning down Clymer schools superintendent Keith Reed Jr. pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder one day after being extradited back to Western New York.

The superintendent of the Clymer School District in Chautauqua County has been found dead outside of his home, the victim of an apparent homicide. 

Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies discovered 51-year-old Keith Reed at his residence on Clymer-Sherman Road with gunshot wounds this morning.  Reed lived alone and hadn't been heard from him since Friday night. 

Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace says Reed was reported missing by friends Sunday night.
