New York Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney is running in the four-way Democratic primary for state attorney general after former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned in May over accusations that he physically assaulted women he dated.

When Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon called for a state Moreland Act Commission to investigate government corruption Tuesday, she was not the first to do so.


Governor Andrew Cuomo received a bit of good news just two days before he is to give his State of the State address. The governor and his office have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the premature closing of an ethics commission.

Governor Cuomo and the current legislative leaders have downplayed efforts for new reforms in Albany, following the conviction of the former Assembly Speaker on seven counts of corruption.

The fallout continues over whether Governor Cuomo’s top aid interfered with an ethics commission probe, with some now saying that Attorney General Eric Schneiderman could have done more to protect the integrity of the investigations and whether any actual crimes were committed.

A new poll finds that Governor Cuomo is still feeling the fall out from the demise of his Moreland Commission, a  panel that was investigating corruption in the legislature. Cuomo disbanded the commission as part of the state budget deal.

The recently enacted state budget also marks the end of a commission that was investigating corruption in the legislature. Governor Cuomo agreed to dismantle the Moreland Act panel as part of a deal on ethics reform.

It's an initiative aimed at stopping public corruption in the state. Governor Andrew Cuomo was in Buffalo at the University at Buffalo Law School Tuesday to discuss the creation of a group of top law enforcement officials and legal experts designated to investigate public corruption in state agencies.
