Buffalo Common Council members are blasting local utilities for the way they treat the public and customers when doing projects.

A gas leak in downtown Buffalo Friday lead to the evacuation of several buildings and shut down a section of Swan Street. The leak occurred around 10:30 a.m. National Fuel was conducting maintenance work outside of 284 Main Street when they cracked an old gas line.

The fate of the Northern Access Pipeline Project could be decided within a couple weeks. On Monday, people from across the state who oppose National Fuel’s natural gas pipeline converged on Albany to express their concerns.

Local residents and customers of National Fuel gas are trying to challenge the company’s proposed rate hike. They shared their concerns during a hearing by the Public Service Commission at Buffalo’s downtown central library on Wednesday.

Activists went out to Williamsville last night to protest the request of National Fuel to raise its charges for delivering natural gas.

Residential customers of National Fuel can expect to see their gas bills rise by an average $5.75 per month, or nearly 7.9%.

If you heat your home with natural gas, heating bills could hit the lowest levels in more than a decade.  Experts say current projections indicate that average heating costs will be 29% lower than last year.

National Fuel predicts lower heating costs this winter

The cost of heating your home could be lower this year. National Fuel Gas is predicting the average bill will be down 20 percent this winter.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office has announced the approval of a joint proposal from the state Public Service Commission, National Fuel, and other state agencies and commissions to freeze delivery rates for National Fuel natural gas customers in Western New York through September 30, 2015.

A settlement has been reached with National Fuel that will bring refunds to customers and additional green jobs to Western New York.

New food processing facilities are popping up across Western New York and they’re generating demand for skilled workers to operate them. Preparations are underway to train more local people for the industry.
