A local congressman is vowing to help New Era Cap Company work through tariff concerns, as he hopes to convince them to abandon a plan to close its Derby manufacturing plant. But another congressman thinks the problem isn't in Washington, but in Albany.

Evans Supervisor Mary Hosler says she would like to talk to New Era CEO Chris Koch to see what might be done to help workers who will lose their jobs in the closing the Derby cap manufacturing plant. The closing comes as the company only this year used up its tax benefits and tax breaks to be liable for full property taxes on the facility.

New Era Cap Company says it is considering ending operations at its plant in Derby, effective in March. The facility employs more than 200 people.

New Era, the Buffalo-headquartered maker of popular sports caps, is launching its largest line of National Football League hats since securing a license with the league in 2012. The hats will all be made in Western New York by more than 250 employees inside New Era's Derby factory.

The Buffalo Bills and New Era Cap made it official Thursday. The Orchard Park-based stadium in which the pro football team plays is known as New Era Field for at least the next seven years.
