An interim police commissioner, technology and two separate probes of deaths in confrontations with Buffalo police officers are leading to significant changes in the way officers and the public meet.

The ballot proposition on whether to hold a state Constitutional Convention was soundly defeated in  Tuesday’s election. But a second question of whether to strip pensions from convicted lawmakers was approved.

With lawmakers in Albany preoccupied with getting the budget done by week’s end, groups have to get creative to gain attention. Supporters of spending for public defense for the poor came up with one way: a “Wheel of Fortune”-style game staged right in the middle of the action.

Eight protesters were arrested outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office Tuesday as they called for more money for legal aid services for the state’s poorest.


Despite his claims of support for agriculture, many New York farmers believe Governor Cuomo is supporting policies that will hurt their industry.
