The New York State legislature finished up work on the budget around 7:30 a.m. Monday, just making the budget deadline of April 1. The spending plan represents a compromise where not everyone is completely happy.

Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses are on the rise in New York State.  The New York State Department of Health has said there are approximately 9,000 cases of Lyme disease and other related illnesses reported annually.

Joined by New York State Senator Timothy Kennedy Wednesday at the Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo, leaders of several science and nature education centers warned that their ability to fully serve the public - and remain important contributors to the local economy - may be in jeopardy if they lose state funding as a part of Albany's multi-billion dollar budget crisis.

Governor Andrew Cuomo appeared in Buffalo on Tuesday morning to celebrate several components of the newly-passed state budget and to promote the next phase of his ambitious Buffalo Billion program.


New York will be the first state in the nation to offer free college tuition to middle-class students under the new state budget deal worked out by Governor Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers.

Over 1 million more New Yorkers on Medicaid

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ New York has added 1.1 million people to Medicaid since the state health exchange opened last year in the national effort to connect the uninsured with low-cost coverage.
 

Officials with the Erie County Water Authority are pleased with an announcement from State officials indicating New York's new budget includes $200-million dollars for communities interested in upgrading frail water infrastructures.
