The New York state Thruway Authority will be implementing emergency toll procedures in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

A major construction project to repair the four-mile stretch of I-90 that runs through the Seneca Nation’s Cattaraugus Territory has begun, the New York State Thruway Authority announced Tuesday.

The decrepit five miles of the New York State Thruway through Seneca Nation land is turning into a political free-for-all, with no immediate prospects the road will be repaired. The road is so bad, the speed limit is down to 45 mph.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont went fishing on Lake Ontario Tuesday for their first official meeting. After showing off a pair of steelhead trout, Cuomo also took questions from reporters on a wide range of issues.

For five miles across the Seneca Nation's Cattaraugus Territory, the New York State Thruway paving is so bad the Thruway Authority had put up "rough road" signs. Three politicians are charging Gov. Andrew Cuomo is being political in his dealings with the Seneca Nation, leaving the road in bad shape.

Thruway adopts beets to battle icing

The New York State Thruway is getting special treatment this winter to help prevent icing.

Crews will be spreading a mixture of sugar beet juice and brine ahead of storms to help head off icing along the 570-mile highway system. The Thruway Authority say

s that won't replace rock salt, but the mixture has worked out as a pre-treatment.

It expects to use 180,000 tons of rock salt, 175,000 gallons of salt brine and 50,000 gallons of juice and brine mix this winter.

A significant toll hike on the New York State Thruway is appearing to be a near certainty.

A 45 percent rate hike has been proposed for vehicles that possess three or more axles. Thruway officials claim that the rate hike is necessary to maintain the fiscal health of the agency. A portion of the news funds are expected to pay for a new Tappan Zee Bridge near New York City and to maintain the Erie Canal.

Opponents argue that the hike will translate into higher prices for consumer goods.

Commercial traffic on the New York State Thruway could soon be paying higher tolls.

Governor Andrew Cuomo hinted on Friday that a rate hike of 45 percent should be considered for large trucks using the highway. The governor claimed that the increase was needed to keep the Thruway solvent. Lawmakers across the state are questioning the rate hike.

Tolls on the Thruway have been raised in four of the past seven years.

The lawyer for the New York State Thruway employees union will be serving prison time.

Kevin Clor was sentenced to up to eight years behind bars for stealing nearly $200,000 from the union he represented. The thefts began in 2006 and were executed over a period of five years.

Clor pleaded guilty to all 34 counts against him.
