The COVID-19 pandemic has made the electoral process a bit different this year for some, but Erie County’s Board of Elections has been hard at work ensuring every vote is counted, no matter how or where you voted.

Despite a higher than usual number of absentee ballots left to be counted, Republican State Sen. Chris Jacobs declared victory Tuesday night in the special election for New York’s 27th Congressional district, as well as the three-way primary for who will represent the GOP in the race for the seat this November.

 

Erie County Board of Elections workers counted what votes they could late Tuesday night and went home, knowing Wednesday would be just as tough as the last week or two. They are waiting for the U.S. Postal Service to arrive.

Early voting for next week's presidential and state primaries, as well as for the a special election in the 27th congressional district, continues through Sunday.

The campaign of Democratic Congressional candidate Nate McMurray has filed a lawsuit against both the Democratic and Republican Erie County Board of Elections Commissioners.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the special election for New York’s vacant 27th congressional seat has been moved from April 28 to June 23. Also being moved is the state’s presidential primary.
