Harvey Austin School on Sycamore Avenue was in lockdown late Thursday afternoon following a report of an individual with a gun near or on the school grounds. Some children were there at the time as part of an after-school program.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown took the oath of office for his third term in a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday morning at City Hall. During his inaugural address, Brown said his priorities for the next four years include greater visibility in assisting Buffalo's struggling public schools.
The Buffalo School District plans to scrap its memorandum of understanding on teacher evaluations. In a written statement, Superintendent Dr. Pamela Brown says the State Education Department determined the MOU between the district and the Buffalo Teachers Federation is void.
