Thick black plumes of smoke can be spotted in the sky across the border from Western New York into southwestern Ontario. That’s where multiple fire crews in Port Colborne, ON are battling a large industrial fire at a vinyl products facility near the Welland Canal.

All aboard the Cotter for a special family reunion

Members of a family with roots in South Buffalo and with the Buffalo Fire Department gathered Friday aboard the city's vintage fireboat. The tour is intended to not only celebrate the family's heritage but raise awareness that the ship is in need of upgrades.

On Oct. 5, 1960, an enormous explosion and fire broke out in the Maple Leaf Mills grain elevator, the largest in Canada, at the entrance to the Welland Canal in Port Colborne. Two days later the catastrophic blaze was still out of control when the city of Port Colborne, which did not have a fireboat of its own, requested assistance from the Buffalo Fire Department.
