The raising of a Rainbow flag at Niagara Square signified the start of Pride Week in the City of Buffalo. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York City where members of the LGBTQ community clashed with police after continuous harassment.

Sidewalks and crosswalks throughout Allentown are being painted with rainbows. As the first part of an ongoing initiative to support the LGBTQ community in Buffalo, the “Rainbows on Allen” project aims to provide permanent symbols of acceptance that last beyond Buffalo’s Pride Week.

It's an annual smorgasbord of events that  showcases the region's LGBT community, mixing celebration, advocacy  and community engagement. WNY Pride Week began Tuesday, a rite of spring that is expected to attract more than 30,000 people from all walks of life.
