Two Buffalo police officers seen on video punching a man in the face while he was on the ground won’t face criminal charges stemming from the encounter last year, a prosecutor has decided.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced Tuesday that due to a conflict of interest, a special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate the actions of two Buffalo Police officers who arrested Quentin Suttles during a May 10 traffic stop.

In a moment of national reckoning over structural racism and police brutality against people of color, Buffalo residents are sharing personal stories of encountering police violence and discrimination.

When Martin Gugino was pushed by a Buffalo Police Officer on Thursday, it was added to the City of Good Neighbors’ laundry list of police brutality cases. 

Since 2006, there have been 15 documented cases of police excessive use of force in Buffalo, according to WKBW
