Western New York will receive $67.3 million supporting 109 projects in the ninth year of New York State Regional Economic Development Council competition awards.

The state’s mayors are moving away from a state aid program for localities that they say has not been well funded in recent years, and are trying a new way to get the governor’s and the legislature’s attention as the 2019 state budget season approaches.

The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council sent its wish list to Albany Tuesday.

A vast tract of land which was once the home of 19th Century industry in iron and steel manufacturing is closer to becoming home for a vast 21st Century manufacturing complex.

The state has awarded the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council $60.8 million. The latest round of funding will come in the form of grants and tax breaks to spur growth.
