Buffalo Marathon attracts thousands of runner

Conditions were nearly perfect for Sunday's Buffalo Marathon. It was run under plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the 50s when the starting gun sounded at 6:30am.

They sported hand-crocheted bison hats and wore blazoning yellow T-shirts that succinctly explained their reason for attending the Turkey Trot.

Clutching a large forest-green bow and carrying a quiver filled with arrows on his shoulder, the colorful character inspected the huge crowd that gathered on Delaware Avenue in North Buffalo.

YMCA

Registration closed Tuesday for the the 116th annual Turkey Trot, the annual Thanksgiving morning foot race, from the YMCA on Delaware Avenue to the Buffalo Convention Center. 

YMCA officials say 13,200 people have signed up for the race.  Proceeds benefit programs at the YMCA.  It is the longest continuously held road race in the country. 

Budd Bailey writes a running column for the Buffalo News.  Bailey tells WBFO's Mark Scott the number of runners has increased significantly in recent years.
