If you need an ambulance in Buffalo, your help may arrive a little faster than previously. The city's ambulance provider, American Medical Response, says it has tuned up its operations in the city to the point it has knocked two minutes off response time.

Two Buffalo Common Council members are calling on Rural Metro to explain itself, after an ambulance was late to the scene of a Kail Street house fire Tuesday.

Rural Metro's response times in the city of Buffalo, according to Mayor Byron Brown, are "are absolutely a concern." In response, the ambulance company says that it is focused on improving its performance.

Rural Metro Ambulance is making a $1.5-million investment in new ambulances for the Buffalo area.  The vehicles are part of a pilot project which the ambulance service is conducting in Buffalo and a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

It appears the Buffalo Common Council will not be rubber stamping a new deal with Rural Metro. Last Tuesday, an elderly driver waited 45-minutes for an ambulance after her car hit a Hertel Avenue restaurant.

With its contract in the City of Buffalo set to expire in June, Rural Metro Medical Services is defending its ambulance service.

The City of Buffalo and Erie County say they have received assurances from Rural Metro Services that ambulance service won't be interrupted even though the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

A strike by some 400 EMT's and paramedics at Rural Metro Ambulance is over.  Employees walked off the job at 12:01 Tuesday morning, but company spokesman Brian Lawson said talks continued.
