There are no imminent proposals in place, but members of the Erie County Legislature discussed Thursday some "what ifs" that they hope may ease the strain on local ambulance fleets and improve their overall response times in critical cases.
Rural Metro's response times in the city of Buffalo, according to Mayor Byron Brown, are "are absolutely a concern." In response, the ambulance company says that it is focused on improving its performance.
The Common Council came back from its August recess for a special session Thursday. With uncertainty about the future of Rural Metro with a competitor buying the firm out, members approved a new five-year ambulance agreement.
