The Buffalo Sabres open the season against the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night at First Niagara Center.  The area around the FNC is expected to be jam-packed with fans and difficult to navigate for those not familiar with the construction going on at HarborCenter.

Thousands of Buffalo Sabres fans who would normally enjoy their favorite hockey team at home on TV were forced to make other plans, watch the game elsewhere, or miss it entirely.

These are the thousands of Time Warner Cable subscribers whose access to MSG Network is blacked out as the cable provider and netwotk that carries Sabres games (along with several metro New York pro sports teams) remained at odds over a new deal.

Concussions are a known risk for athletes involved in contact sports.  With youth athletes becoming faster and stronger, head injuries such as concussions are becoming more common... and more severe.   Doctors are becoming more aware of the long-term effects of concussions but say more work must be done to further understand them and what connections may exist to other symptoms including depression, headaches and other physical problems.

Sabres show off new facilities in advance of home opener

The Buffalo Sabres play their first home game of the NHL's 2011-2012 regular season Friday night.

On Wednesday, the team showed off the results of its' multi-million dollar overhaul of the team's facilities.  

WBFO's Michael Mroziak was on the tour and says even seasoned Sabres beat reporters were awestruck by the team's new digs.
