UB closes controversial shale institute

The University at Buffalo has announced that it is shutting down its Shale Resources and Society Institute, effective immediately.  UB President Satish Tripathi announced the decision Monday afternoon, following an internal assessment.

University at Buffalo president Satish K. Tripathi is on an ambitious travel agenda around the globe to promote UB.

Tripathi meet with about 350 alum and over 200 other faculty staff and guest Thursday night at the Hotel Lafayette.   He is at the half-way mark of a 20-month, 20-city tour.   He has traveled as far away to Malayisa and back in the U.S. to San Franciso. 

Tripathi said UB has long international ties, well before he became president.

UB President Satish Tripathi has announced the hiring of a new school provost.

Chemical engineer Charles Zukoski will fill the $400,000 per year post. Zukoski is the chairman of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He will begin his new job this summer.
