Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is taking some heat for its security - or lack of it. However, the hospital says its security is "as good or better" than facilities of its same size and population.

The Buffalo Common Council is tightening security in its Council Chambers, in response to active shooter incidents across the country.

Although Buffalo's City Hall has implemented a number of additional security measures recently, Common Council President Darius Pridgen says his colleagues do not currently hold active shooter drills. He wants to change that.

The Trump administration has reopened the door to refugees seeking admission to the U.S. – but with broad new security procedures that raise fresh concerns for the groups that help them resettle here.

Most refugee admissions had been suspended for the last four months as the Trump administration came up with new security measures. Now the White House has issued an executive erder allowing the program to resume, with those measures in place.

After the revelation that a cybersecurity breach at the international credit reporting agency Equifax exposed personal information of 143 million people, the company has confirmed an additional security incident with a payroll-related service in the months prior. It says the two are unrelated.

The Peace Officer Training Academy is holding an Open House Saturday  for its new location in a renovated factory building at 2180 Elmwood Avenue. It is the first time since the initial class in August 2000 that the Academy has had its own facility.

There is a covered bridge between the Rath Building and Main Place Mall that makes walking back and forth between the two buildings easy, especially in bad weather. However, it is also a security dilemma.

Yahoo says hackers stole names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers from more than 1 billion accounts.

In a statement posted to its website on Wednesday, the company said it had "taken steps to secure user accounts and is working closely with law enforcement."
