Former Buffalo bar now home to St. Simon's Genesis Center

A South Buffalo building that used to be the site of a bar, then sat empty and dilapidated, is open again and serving its neighborhood as a multi-purpose community center.

Tesla's $2.6 billion offer to buy SolarCity is more about Tesla than it is about the struggling SolarCity. That's according to Harold Star, a business professor at the University at Buffalo.

David Meyers was sentenced to 20 years-to-life in prison in Erie County court Tuesday. Meyers, 19, admitted to bludgeoning 52-year-old Brian Dombek to death and setting fire to his South Buffalo home back in March to cover up the crime.

Two area teenagers were pronounced dead at local hospitals Thursday evening after Buffalo Police divers rescued them from the Union Ship Canal in South Buffalo where they had been swimming.

Thousands of citizens head over bridges every day which carry traffic across the Buffalo River and Cazenovia Creek in and out of South Buffalo.   The city is pushing to replace the two bridges, which they say are old and worn out.

Body found in Cazenovia Creek

Buffalo Police divers pulled a body out of Cazenovia Creek in South Buffalo this morning. 

A passerby noticed the body of a man floating in the creek near Stevenson Steet just after 8:10 a.m. and called police.

Detectives are working to identify the person, who at this time is only being described as an older white male.  Police say it believed foul play was not a factor. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Lifelong South Buffalo resident Kevin Lafferty formally announced his candidacy for the vacant South District Common Council Seat on the steps of City Hall Monday. 

Lafferty and four other applicants will present their credentials to the Council for consideration Tuesday morning.  The person appointed must run for the office in November. 

Lafferty pledged that if he is chosen, he will represent the interests of residents of South Buffalo and not "political leaders."
