The vacant seat on the Buffalo School Board is apparently very attractive to residents of South Buffalo. The board is winnowing through 15 candidates for the Park District seat vacated by Carl Paladino when State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia removed him.

It is not just that old industrial buildings in Buffalo are being converted for other uses, mostly housing. A new coffee house in the Old First Ward is benefiting from nearby new housing, as well as city natives returning here with ideas from other places.

Tim O’Shei of The Buffalo News has been traveling around the country visiting Western New Yorkers who’ve had a big impact on pop culture. His latest feature in The Buffalo Connection series – which hit print Sunday – is a profile on world-class music manager and South Buffalo native Bill Diggins. Diggins’ tenacious drive helped take TLC, one of the biggest pop groups of the 90s, to the top of the charts. Now, he’s out to make history again.

For decades, the Seneca Theatre, located at Seneca and Cazenovia streets, has been a symbol of what South Buffalo was. The building is deteriorated and the actual theater space was torn down to make way for a parking lot. However, the community is looking forward to a $9 million rebirth.


He will be remembered for his long history of public service in Erie County. Former Deputy County Executive and South Buffalo Common Councilmember James Keane has died at the age of 70.

There is much talk about the development taking place around Larkinville, but now the other end of Seneca Street is taking shape. Schneider Development plans to invest $9 million into the now vacant 48,000-square-foot historic building at 2178 Seneca Street in what is hoped to spark more revitalization.

A South Buffalo building that used to be the site of a bar, then sat empty and dilapidated, is open again and serving its neighborhood as a multi-purpose community center.


Tesla's $2.6 billion offer to buy SolarCity is more about Tesla than it is about the struggling SolarCity. That's according to Harold Star, a business professor at the University at Buffalo.

David Meyers was sentenced to 20 years-to-life in prison in Erie County court Tuesday. Meyers, 19, admitted to bludgeoning 52-year-old Brian Dombek to death and setting fire to his South Buffalo home back in March to cover up the crime.
