It was built and opened in 1886 by German immigrants but closed five years ago as one of many mergers by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. The group Friends of St. Ann Church and Shrine are urging diocesan leaders to reopen a church they say would be a good fit in a redeveloping Buffalo neighborhood.

St. Ann's, the 125-year-old Gothic-style Roman Catholic church located on Broadway, east of downtown Buffalo, is getting a second look.

The end is coming forĀ  St. Ann's Church & Shrine, one of Buffalo's landmark churches. Worn down by age, the structure's fate may have been doomed by poor construction a century-and-a-half ago.
