Plug Power

An Albany-based fuel cell company, Plug Power, is again expanding in this region. If that name sounds familiar, it is because the company recently announced it will bring a hydrogen fuel cell "gigafactory" to Henrietta, NY, which is expected to create more than 370 jobs.

Samsung Electronics reportedly is considering an investment of as much as $17 billion to build a chip-making factory in Arizona, Texas or New York and that site in New York is said to be in Genesee County.

A Massachusetts company that makes silicon wafers for solar power cells has decided not to build its first commercial factory in a Genesee County business park after all.

There was a sense of victory Wednesday afternoon in Batavia with the announcement that a $700 million  solar wafer plant would add 1,000 jobs to Genesee County.
