In New York, Gun Owners Balk At New Handgun Database

Wednesday marked the official deadline for more than 370,000 handgun owners in the state of New York to register those guns with state police. New York is trying to use that information to build a comprehensive record of gun owners — something only one other state has done. The database that California started in 2007 has gotten mixed reviews.

Deadline to re-certify pistol permits is here

Wednesday is the deadline for New York State pistol permit holders to re-certify their permits with state police. State police said they are focused on informing handgun owners about the requirement, which is a provision of the state’s SAFE Act. The deadline applies to those who were issued a pistol permit before January 2013.

A Clarence man has been charged in a home invasion case.

Thirty year old Justin Deho is facing multiple charges after he was found in a home that was being watched by a friend of the homeowner. State Police made the arrest. Deho is believed to have done work at the home in the past.

He was arraigned and is scheduled to be back in court later this month.

A New York state trooper has been suspended without pay amid allegations he organized parties that involved prostitution while off duty.

State police say in a statement that Trooper Titus Taggart was suspended on Thursday as a result of an internal investigation that began in December.

The statement says the probe is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Two other state troopers were also suspended without pay for allegedly engaging in misconduct.

Retired pastor's remains found in Allegany State Park

New York State Park Police have confirmed that the human remains discovered in Allegany State Park on Tuesday are those of a 92 year old retired pastor who went missing nearly a year and a half ago.

The identity of Reverend Thomas Hamilton of Great Valley was determined by dental records.

Hamilton and his 66 year old daughter became lost while hiking through the park in November of 2010. The woman made it to safety the following day, but an eight day search for Hamilton at the time was fruitless.
