A report out of Albany is indicating that student loan debt in New York state has more than doubled over the past decade.

Some say you cannot put a price on education. But many people who face mounting student loan debt might have a different view. WBFO's Nick Maxwell takes a closer look at an issue that continues to receive nationwide attention.

President Obama signed an executive order Monday allowing borrowers to cap their student loan payments at 10 percent of their income. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer says the action will help relieve the debt burden for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for passage of a bill that would allow college graduates to refinance student loans at a lower rate. The national student loan debt is at roughly $1.2 trillion, surpassing auto loan and credit card debt.
