The Syracuse Common Council is unanimously calling for the immediate suspension of a Syracuse police officer that broke rank and pushed a Post Standard news photographer to the ground during one of the city's protests against police brutality. It happened on the night when protests turned violent, windows were smashed and stores were looted.


A one-time Buffalo Catholic priest, who is now on suspension as an Episcopal priest in Los Angeles, allegedly molested at least two people here before leaving the Catholic Church. Paul Kowalewski is now facing a lawsuit.

The State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse has opened its cord blood bank, only the second facility of its kind in the state and the first outside New York City. Blood from umbilical cords is processed for stem cells, which can treat cancers and other diseases. The bank is open for public and private use.
