Maggie Haberman says becoming a journalist was an "accident." While fortune may have played a part in her career choice, Haberman has proven to be exceptionally skilled at the trade. In 2018, Haberman and her team at the New York Times won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the Trump White House and the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. Haberman spoke Thursday night as part of UB's 33rd annual Distinguished Speakers Series.

He is best known as one of the members of legendary British comedy group Monty Python. John Cleese's extensive résumé includes the television series Fawlty Towers, numerous films including A Fish Called Wanda and countless supporting roles. He also served as a visiting professor at Cornell University and engages frequently with would-be trolls on Twitter. Cleese will appear in Buffalo Monday, May 20, to explain "Why There Is No Hope."

UB Speaker Series to kick off with Malala Yousafzai

The University at Buffalo announced human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai will be the first speaker of the annual Distinguished Speakers Series that begins September 19th.

A Freedom of Information request revealed the University at Buffalo paid 275-thousand dollars for Hillary Clinton's Distinguished Speakers Series speech last fall.  In this Focus on Education report WBFO'S Eileen Buckley says the FOIL request was issued by the Public Accountability Initiative based on Buffalo's West Side.

For Laura Bush, the world changed while her husband George W. Bush served as President.

The former First Lady spoke Wednesday night in the University at Buffalo's distinguished speakers series.

She told an appreciative audience her husband has to pick up his own wet towels at their new home in Dallas because there is no longer the White House staff. There are also no longer tales about her family reported in supermarket tabloids.
