If you look at local job ads, there are usually pages of open jobs but an acute shortage of people with needed skills. The Northland Workforce Training Center is ramping up its recruitment for skills training.

A new nationwide index of small business job growth and wages is showing the pace of those numbers slowing.

The visual images on television were very clear: Republicans were vocal in their praise of President Trump's State of the Union message, while Democrats were not wearing out their hands with applause. However, there was one issue that seemed to cross the aisle: infrastructure.

Although upstate regions continue to struggle, New York State had more jobs last year than at any time since the Great Recession, according to a new report on employment published Monday by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

- Some of Buffalo's unemployed residents are getting discouraged with the local job market. A few hundred stood in line Thursday at the Father Belle Community Center for a West Side job fair.

For Buffalo's unemployed the pressure is mounting to find a job. Erik Martinez has been out of work since the start of this summer. Martinez has two children. He's willing to take even a part-time job to avoid applying for welfare.
