Lots of drugs, some jewelry and furs and a celebrity rapper made the list of Top 10 unique seizures and arrests by the Buffalo Field Office of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in 2019. The seizures represent the array of threats encountered in passenger and commercial traffic.

The acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection plans to step down in the coming weeks, according to two agency officials, amid a public furor over the treatment of migrant children in U.S. facilities.

John Sanders is expected to make his resignation effective July 5, according to the officials, who spoke to NPR on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made to agency employees.

A major overhaul of the U.S. Customs Plaza at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is officially underway. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission broke ground on the $90 million modernization project on Tuesday.

The Trump administration Tuesday formally announced it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — also called DACA — putting an expiration date on the legal protections granted to roughly 800,000 people known as "DREAMers," who entered the country illegally as children.
