New York State has established a $20 million competition for local governments to come up with ideas for consolidation, efficiency and shared services. The only grant to Western New York in the first round went to Chautauqua County.

Many are familiar with the 43North competition, which has been awarding millions in prizes to new Buffalo businesses in recent years. Now the state is providing $20 million over four years, including $10 million in prize money, for the new 76West clean energy competition in the Southern Tier.

New York State is investing millions in clean energy alternatives, with some of the funds being directed toward the Southern Tier.

Memorial Day ceremonies are taking place throughout Western New York today.  The event in the town of Poland, New York, features a keynote address from Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan, who retired as an Air Force Colonel.
